www.pocketgamer.com reports that Glu Mobile has ended July 2014 as the world’s biggest mobile publisher on iOS in terms of downloads, thanks to the unprecedented success of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood and Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores.
That’s according to App Annie data, which also revealed that the publisher was the tenth most lucrative outfit in the world in terms of iOS game revenue.
Despite having a rough time in recent years, Glu’s decision to greenlight a Kim Kardashian game turned out to be a genius move, with the title’s performance single handedly putting the company back on the map.
After launching in July, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood tore through the US top grossing charts, ending the month as the most downloaded game on iOS, while also becoming a member of the top 10 on the US grossing charts.
“Incredibly, the game garnered over 68,000 reviews in the month of July, which is more than all the other new releases in the iOS top 10 by downloads combined,” read an App Annie statement. “The mainstream adoption and monetization of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood could open the floodgates for future celebrity-publisher partnerships.”
While Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores, was unable to match Kim Kardashian’s impossible level of success, it still played a hand in helping Glu reach the mobile summit.Dino Hunter ended July as the second most downloaded iOS game, while it also spent over two weeks in the iPad top 10 in both the US and China: the two largest regions in terms of overall downloads.
Revenues in the mobile gaming market are growing steadily, as we report in our weekly updates based on data from www.thinkgaming.com. Glu Mobile seems to have found the right recipe for megahits and the share seems very attractive at current levels, in our opinion.
