#G5 Entertainment: M&A action in mobile gaming

Interesting article on www.pocketgamer.com today regarding M&A action heating up in the fast growin mobile gaming market. G5 Entertainment seems a not impossible target for the gaming giants out there.

“Days after it acquired fellow Korean outfit Com2us, Gamevil has announced the acquisition of another studio – Nine Wheels – and lifted the lid on investments in two further outfits, Everple and DBROS.

The company, which signaled its intent to expand through ‘aggressive acquisitions’ via a $130 million warchest back in June, says said buyouts are steps along the way to becoming the “top mobile games publisher in the world.”

Gamevil describes all three companies as “promising mobile game companies who have established a large following because of their in-game social network features”, with the company claiming it will “work hand-in-hand with these developers to capitalise on their know-how and succeed in the global market.”

Nine Wheels is best known for free-to-play iOS city builder Grape Valley, with CEO Young Sun Kim claiming the deal represents a smart move by both parties.

“We’re fortunate to have partnered with such a large and expanding mobile games publisher in Gamevil,” stated Young Sun Kim.

“Going forward, we will do all we can to make use of our synergy and partnership to increase our competitiveness in the global market.”

It’s not clear whether further acquisitions are imminent – the firm restating its aim to “further accelerate its global expansion efforts through continued, aggressive investments” – though Gamevil states that its buyouts and investments to date have “bolstered its competitive edge”, buying what it believes are specialists in key areas.”
